PAIN MANAGEMENT

Here’s the thing about pain. Studies have shown that manual physiotherapy and dry needling can certainly help. But they’re not long-term solutions. That’s why our approach to pain-relief is a little different: by relieving the pain, we get a window of opportunity. An opportunity to get you moving. To strengthen your body and build resilience. And ultimately, to stop the pain coming back.

LET'S TREAT YOUR PAIN

RELIEVE

There are a lot of tricks and techniques we can use to alleviate pain. This phase might involve dry needling, taping, ergonomic advice, massage or hands-on manipulation. It’s all about soothing discomfort and getting your body ready for the next step.

RESTORE

Restore is really what sets Viva apart. While other physios stop at massage or needling, we focus on long-term pain prevention. In the Restore phase, we’ll build up your muscle resilience, and carefully explore your body’s response to certain movements.

PERFORM

Once we know the mechanics behind your pain, we can design a program to suit your goals. Sometimes that means playing sport or running a marathon, other times it’s just getting through a work day without discomfort. Perform is where we build solid, long-term technique.

WE'RE HERE TO HELP

Georgia

When it comes to experiencing pain, Georgia recognises that insight can be the most powerful tool. She can help by diagnosing and educating you regarding both the source and the underlying causes of your pain. Georgia will use manual therapy techniques and gentle relieve-based exercises to help alleviate the pain, and work with you to start moving towards achievable goals that will help to prevent it returning in the future.

Bernice

With pain, they could either be the cause of other pain/dysfunction in your body, or the result of pain/dysfunction somewhere else. Bernice will undergo a comprehensive assessment through a thorough set of questions and tests to diagnose and treat the pain through manual therapy techniques and gentle relieving exercises.

Bernice believes knowledge is power, and will provide you with all the right information and guidance to help you understand the nature of your pain, so you can return to being in touch with the movements of your body in the safest way possible. Her experience in treating ongoing pain includes conditions such as disc injuries, non-specific low back pain, piriformis syndrome, neck pain, and pain from nerve tension.

Kath

If you have had long-term pain, it can be a tricky thing to navigate. We now know from medical advances in pain that it’s more complicated than just having a body part that hurts. Since completing her Masters in 2009, Kath has developed a special interest in chronic and long-term pain – be it back pain, neck pain, headaches, or pain from any area of the body that persists.

Kath can help you to diagnose and treat the pain (we call this the relieve phase) and then help you confidently discover and learn your body’s tolerance for movement and load.

Carlee

Carlee’s personal story regarding pain is what inspired her to pursue physio: “My partner herniated his L4/5 disc and after watching the physio work on him for 15 minutes, he was instructed to take a walk. My partner walked away from us and when he returned there were tears in his eyes. ‘That’s the first time I’ve been out of pain in weeks,’ he said, and I thought to myself – I want to do that.”

Carlee is excited by the developments in pain science and understands the importance of being well physically and mentally to break the pain cycle. Using hands-on techniques and therapeutic exercise, she uses the power of touch and movement to get people out of pain and feeling themselves again.
