You can read more on our Studio Stories about how Pilates has helped our clients (not just in pregnancy)
The first step is to book your individual assessment session with one of our trained physios.

In this session, we will discuss your needs and create a plan for your Pilates practice based on your needs and goals. Your physio may choose to assess your core muscles and pelvic floor real-time ultrasound, depending on your stage of pregnancy and then you’re ready to jump into our classes.

We have a short medical information form that we would like you to complete prior to attending the class.  You can download this form here or just arrive 10 minutes early to your session to complete it.

After we teach you the basics, you have three different class options available to you:

Pregnancy Pilates Classes
Our Pregnancy Pilates Classes host up to five people. The Pregnancy Class style is that the physiotherapist conducts the group, using a combination of mat Pilates, equipment Pilates and tailored exercises specific to those who are pre or post-natal.
There is a large emphasis on the guidelines of safe exercise during and after pregnancy as our physiotherapists are trained in understanding:

  • the musculoskeletal challenges of pregnancy and delivery
  • the requirements of exercising the pelvic floor
  • the limitations of each phase of pregnancy (and how to modify the exercises to still achieve the same goals!
  • the best way to control and manage your abdominal strength, right from the basics through to dealing with abdominal diastasis.

This class allows you to practice Pilates during your pregnancy under the watchful eye of a physio.

Clinical Pilates Equipment Classes
Our Clinical Equipment Classes host up to five people. Each individual has their own program that has been developed by their physiotherapist which makes it the perfect option for those who are pregnant as all guidelines that are specific to your stage of pregnancy can be accommodated. Joining one of our Clinical classes also expands the opportunity to access more class times, rather than just being tied to our Pregnancy-specific classes. The class itself utilises all the Pilates equipment such as reformers, the Cadillac or Trapeze Table, the Wunda chair and our small equipment such as foam rollers, spiky balls, BOSU and weights.
Mat Pilates Classes
With a maximum of 8 people, our physio can keep a close eye on you while you exercise using the mat, foam rollers, weight balls, magic circles and theraband. Unlike our other classes which run in a studio circuit style, the mat class is a little more like a gym class where your physiotherapist will instruct the group as a whole, giving you the opportunity to focus and enjoy the MindBody benefits of Pilates to their full extent. In our pregnancy stream, mat classes are best for the following people:

  • if you’re planning to get pregnant soon
  • if you’re already pregnant and are less than 17 weeks gestation (this is because Sports Medicine Australia’s Exercise in Pregnancy Guidelines outlines certain restrictions in the 2nd and 3rd phase of the trimester. During this time, our Pregnancy Pilates Class is your best option as it is designed to accommodate all these recommendations).
  • If you’re post-natal and have had your rectus abdominal muscles assessed and checked by one of our physiotherapists. Book a session to be checked here.
